What are some holistic ways to cure allergies for my dog?

Posted on February 20, 2010.

My dog is in the High Desert of California and we have tried using children’s benadryl but it doesn’t seem to be working at all. I was curious if anyone knows any of the common forms of allergies in the High Desert in the Fall for animals and if there are any other approaches to treating this allergy.

Just like humans dogs can be allergic to many many different things

The most common are meat protein allergies and seasonal (example ragweed)

The best way to treat allergies to figure out what is causing the allergies.

A vet can help you determine what is causing..one way is by doing a series of allergy testing. i suggest contacting your vet.

allergies are caused by an immune system that overreacts to an everyday substance, such as fleas, pollen, or a certain food.

treatment plans vary depending on the allergy, but they usually involve medication, managing the environment to remove the allergen, or both. Not every dog will need all these measures, so talk with your vet once you know what your dog is allergic to.

Do you have any holistic vets in your area? Many times they are less expensive and are a wonderful resource in addition to your regular vet. I’m in the Midwest and wouldn’t dream of assuming how your dog might be showing allergic reactions.
