Gluten free breads at the grocery store?

Posted on June 25, 2010 ·Tagged .

Ok I’m going to do an experiment and I need a gluten free bread that I can buy at the grocery store. I have found recipes but I don’t have a bread maker. So I need to buy it. I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me what type of bread and other foods that don’t have it. Give me specifics too. I’ve done some research online but it is just giving me basics and it isn’t worded very specifically. I need to know exactly what foods have it and what doesn’t.

my step-daughter is gluten intolerant and makes bread, donuts etc. with rice flour, so you can look in that direction. you can make the dough and bake it in the oven in a meatloaf pan. you don’t need all these fancy electric gadgets.

You can make the bread without a bread machine you know!

Wheat, Rye, and Barley are the gluten containing foods. So anything that has those 2 grains in it are not gluten free.

I am thinking you have to go to health food store to get the gluten free bread.

I have to eat gluten- free- bread, the only place to buy this bread is at a health food store. You can read the side of the package and find out what you need to know. My bread is made of millet flour and flax’s seed. So far it’s the best bread that i have found. It’s made in tampa Florida. The bread is made at Samis Bakery, they are also on line at http://www.Samis Bakery.com c.d.

Our local grocery store is “Stop and Shop” and they sell gluten free bread here.

My grandma is gluten intolerant and she eats a lot of rice, potatoes, yogurt, chicken or beef, fruits, and vegetables. You can buy gluten-free pasta. Basically, at this point in time, anything you can get which originally was made with wheat (and therefore contains gluten) you can get without gluten too, you just have to read the label and when you go out to eat, make sure you are careful about what you order.

Also, you can bake bread without a bread maker–have you ever made a quick bread like banana bread? It’s the same sort of thing–just make sure you buy rice or potato flour and substitute it in a normal bread recipe. The packages that the flour come in often have recipes on them, too.

Cheers and good luck.
